October Monday

First day of October, and the roads were sure to let me know it’s time to get my winter tires on. I was almost the person in the truck sliding off the road, but thankfully I felt the slip slow enough to ease off the pedals. The rest of the day was the same as…

September 30th

The weekend is over again The time has flown with the usual things, cleaning, laundry and chores. But in the midst of all the work, Moments of fun crept in. Time with auntie, horsing around. McDonald’s play place family time New gadgets to make reading fun- so fun, mom and dad wanted to use them,…

Little boy zzzzz

Lying in bed, ready for sleep I listen to the sound of my boy snoring next to me. At equal times grateful for his soft, little boy breathing, while simultaneously wondering when I’ll get him to leave. I know the time will fly, as so many other mothers have told me, but right now I…

The big questions

Another day closer to the end of the month, nine months down and counting. October will soon be here which is good, as my three year old is obsessed with saying, “Halloween time is here!” Every time it’s dark outside. And it feels as though winter will soon be here, even though the week has…

Songs of passion and pain Life is for the living, For sunshine and also for the rain Tonight I heard the poignant words Sang through the bodies Of humans flying like birds Leonard Cohen and ballet A remarkable combination, His glorious voice and dance Earned a standing ovation I wept for the blue raincoat For…

Eye of the storm

Some days it’s hard to catch my breath Feeling the air as it rushes by A whoosh and a gust, But not life sustaining Not slowing to caress my face Instead picking me, Into the eye of the hurricane Things from within are calm Still The speed outside blurry and overwhelming I close my eyes…

Metamophosis

Pressure Creates diamonds From the black stone Within Heat Forges a weapon From A simple piece of tin A chrysalis Transforms the Caterpillar Giving it wings The swan, an ugly duckling With all that it sings For every tough Or difficult move Something better Awaits you- Your personal truth

Birthday Tuesday

Today was a good day. It was strange, driving my father-in-law’s car to work, but interesting. When I was 20, I’d wanted that car more than anything else in the world. Now at 40, I missed my sensible Prius, feeling much too close to the ground in the sporty red Miata. Work was smooth, with…
