Sisterhood

My first full day of conference.

For the first time in ten years,

I was riveted in my chair by every speaker.

I felt the power of the amazing women presenters.

I cried with joy and sadness

I felt enriched by the wisdom of others

who were older and wiser,

As well as those who were more awe-Inspiring

than I’d anticipated.

The power of social media is not to be underestimated. It can influence our purchases, our voting, our likes and dislikes.

But it can also bridge the distance

from east to west,

young and old,

new and experienced.

I joined with amazing women from everywhere in Canada, and felt as though I had made a new family

in a profession I’ve worked in for over ten years.

I caught up with old friends,

and made new ones.

Everyone was kind and open,

smiling because we are all the same,

part of something much, much bigger than ourselves.

Today,

for the first time,

I was part of a sisterhood of medicine.
