The rules

Kids are amazing creatures, full of so many questions and emotions, living their lives with such honesty, before we teach them otherwise.

My little boy is a feral being, who laughs deeply and screams like a panther when cornered.

He throws bricks when full of rage, and gives the biggest and most honest hugs with love, and has never met a chocolate he didn’t love.

He softly pats the cats and hangs off the dog, mauling them with his unwanted affection, even while his allergies make him sneeze.

I can’t educate him out of these things, and while we love the good we can only tolerate the bad,

Until the day comes when he learns the rules,

hiding his true self the way we all learn to do, damping down the uninhibited responses,

socialized and chained.
