Lazy Saturday

Saturday’s gone,

the four hour work week a laughable idea.

My attempts to relax and take my own advice

failed miserably today-

no sleep, a sick boy,

even my effort to attend a yoga class

horribly off track when I went to the class

without a yoga mat…or gym bag.

Somehow, I’d left the house

And in my rush to get out on time

I’d gone without the items I actually needed.

So instead, I bought groceries, necessities, school lunch and kids snacks.

The entire time,

I kept thinking how much less

cluttered and stressful

life would be with fewer items,

wondering how to Konmarie my entire life,

then returning home to unpack

excessive amounts of plastic bags,

as I hadn’t intednded to shop at all,

let alone return with as many as I had.

I attempted to watch the Netflix show,

but it will be something I’ll be watching on my own

based on the “bored now” looks

from others in my house.

I made eye appointments

Completing one thing from my list,

which was nice to check off so early in the year,

even though my list stretches inexorably on.

And then instead of cleaning,

or exercising,

or achievements of any sort

I spent a day in quiet companionship,

reading and living in the moment,

a weird but delightful state of mind

I don’t often achieve.

Tomorrow,

I’ll tackle my list again.
