Intermission from home

I boarded the plane,

turning my back on my home

and lifting into the skies.

As we soared over the mountains

I was filled with a sense of awe

at the beauty and enormity of nature.

Snow already covered the highest peaks,

but the sky was cerulean blue

as the sun beamed down.

I caught up on editing

as I waited for old friends,

then we spent the day enjoying

the sun and the sea.

I strolled through the waning of summer,

enjoying the day and the company

until long past my bedtime.

I missed my kids fiercely,

mourning the loss of the first tooth

of my first borne,

Saddened I wasn’t there,

but reminding myself

that time and distance

make the heart grow fonder,

which is true each

And every time I depart.
