Bedside promises

Looking at my bedside table tonight

I was struck with my good intentions,

And not for the first time

I love going to Chapters

More than any other place I could go

It is my favorite store in the world.

At least,

until I own my own

bookstore-coffee-shop-ice cream-place.

For now though,

Chapters is my happy place.

If I win the lottery,

I’m going to buy one to sit in all day long.

But for now,

my bedside table is staring at me,

Sad book faces,

waiting to be read

Reminding me how much

I wanted to read them

When I first saw them

Coyly looking out at me from the shelf.

Tonight I counted

61

Promises I’ve made

Books I still want to read

So tonight I made myself a promise

If I can read one book a week,

And not buy anymore until I catch up

I will write a review on each

And move on

And then I will be allowed to once again

Buy as many books as I’d like

Maybe for Christmas this year

Santa will bring me a gift card

To the happiest place on earth
